Description
This
type
of
linkspan
was
an
innovative
solution
developed
by
Kashec
that
avoids
the
need
of
having
a
gantry
at
the
front
end
of
the
linkspan
with
a
hydraulic
system
for
raising and lowering the linkspan.
Instead
two
columns
supported
on
piles
were
installed
with
rack
and
pinion
arrangement
for
raising
and
lowering
the
linkspan for the finer adjustment in height.
This
design
solution
was
used
to
overcome
the
site
constraint
of
limited
space
available
for
the
construction
of
the linkspan.
Project Design
Kashec
provided
full
marine
civil
and
structural
design
services for this scheme.
The
structure
consisted
of
a
45
metre
long
integral
pontoon
and
approach
ramp
designed
using
a
box
girder
structural
steel construction.
