Dungeness A Power Station Location: Dungeness, TN29, United Kingdom Service: Structural assessment Team Client: BNFL Magnox Description Dungeness A is a legacy Magnox power station that was connected to the National Grid in 1965 and reached the end of its life in 2006. An assessment of the existing structures was needed to comply with the Health and Safety requirements and allow for the life extension of the operation of the nuclear power station. Project Design Kashec carried out detailed inspections and surveys and provided a structural assessment of the existing structures for this scheme. We carried out structural design checks of the existing structures for the purpose of extending the life of the nuclear power station. We designed the repair and strengthening works required to prove safe operation of the power station, including structural assessment of the primary bioshield walls and checked the capacity of the existing pile cap (top slab of the bioshield) to withstand the increased operational requirements.
