Description
This
multi-million
pound
redevelopment
programme
at
the
RAF
museum
in
Hendon
coincided
with
the
Royal
Air
force
centenary in 2018.
The
construction
of
the
new
two-storey
steel
frame
structure
took
place
around
a
“Sunderland
Flying
Boat”
aeroplane that remained in place throughout the project.
Project Design
Kashec
provided
full
structural
design
services
for
this
scheme.
The
existing
mezzanine
floor
within
the
envelope
of
the
hangar
was
demolished.
We
carried
out
a
structural
assessment
of
the
existing
foundations
in
order
to
re-use
them in the new development.
We
worked
closely
with
a
specialist
timber
subcontractor
to
develop
a
structural
solution
to
suit
the
profile
of
the
ceiling as designed by the Architect.
